The MSGS website includes full pdf copies of our publication “The Roundup”, a complete index of the 1930 census compiled primarily by people living in the immediate areas, the Montana State Death Index from the earliest records to 2002, and Richard Fretheim’s “Norski i Montana” naturalization and marriage indexes that focus on the records of Norwegian immigrants from the northeastern part of the state. The MSGS website also provides contact information and links to the local societies.
Our First Families and Early Settlers of Montana project honors ancestors who were in Montana both before statehood on 8 November 1889 and from 9 November 1889 to 31 December 1929. Certificates suitable for framing are issued and copy, ancestral photos and stories are published. Volumes I, II, and III are currently available for purchase. For more information on this project, to purchase Volumes, or to download a submission application, please see the First Families page of our website or visit our society showcase booth. Applications are now being accepted for Volume IV.
